In a sharp critique of Congress leadership, former Telangana Governor and BJP leader Tamilisai Soundararajan accused Rahul Gandhi of misleading the public by vacating the Wayanad Lok Sabha seat, describing it as a stark demonstration of dynastic politics. BJP leaders have intensified their attack on Gandhi for his decision to leave the Wayanad constituency in Kerala.
Soundararajan remarked, 'This is a significant example of dynastic politics. Rahul Gandhi, who was the Wayanad MP, deceived the people by not disclosing his intention to contest in another constituency.' Her comments came amid queries about Priyanka Gandhi Vadra's possible candidacy for the Wayanad seat, a move announced by Congress earlier this month.
Rahul Gandhi was elected from both Wayanad and Raebareli Lok Sabha seats. Soundararajan highlighted his lack of support during the Wayanad calamity, urging the electorate to consider their votes carefully. With Priyanka Gandhi entering the fray, the Congress aims to maintain its influence in Wayanad as she seeks to become the third MP from the Gandhi family in the current Parliament.
The Congress party confirmed Priyanka's candidature through a press release from President Mallikarjun Kharge. The Wayanad bypoll is slated for November 13, aligning with other bye-elections across India, including the first Jharkhand assembly poll phase. A win for Priyanka would reaffirm the Gandhi family's political legacy in Parliament.
Priyanka Gandhi has historically managed family bastions like Amethi and Raebareli and maintains ties to these constituencies. Rahul Gandhi expressed confidence in her Wayanad candidacy, emphasizing his continued support and dedication to the region. Election results for Wayanad, alongside other seats, will be announced on November 23.
