On Friday, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh addressed the Army Commanders' Conference of 2024 via video link from Sukna Cantt in Darjeeling. Singh was initially scheduled to arrive in Gangtok for the meeting, but adverse weather forced his flight to return to Siliguri, prompting a virtual address.

During the conference, Singh and senior military officials engaged in in-depth discussions on border security challenges and potential solutions. The Raksha Mantri highlighted the complexities of the current global landscape, including the potential for unconventional and hybrid warfare, urging the Armed Forces to integrate these considerations into strategic planning.

He remarked on the necessity for the military to continuously learn from global conflicts, both current and historical, emphasizing the importance of vigilant preparation and modernization to address various contingencies. The conference also assessed the tense situations along the Line of Actual Control, especially in Ladakh and Arunachal Pradesh, where military stand-offs frequently occur.

The crucial conference, split into two phases from October 10-11 in Gangtok and October 28-29 in Delhi, marks the first instance of the meeting's proximity to the Line of Actual Control, according to defence officials. It aims to evaluate operational readiness, strategize on national security, and discuss technological advancements in the Indian Army.
