Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma has expressed heartfelt sorrow over the passing of renowned industrialist Ratan Tata, emphasizing his transformational impact on industry along with his philanthropic endeavors.

Praising Tata's legacy, Sangma noted that, beyond his industry achievements, Tata is remembered for his kindness and benevolence. This was echoed in a resolution by Maharashtra's Cabinet, which urged the Centre to award Tata the Bharat Ratna, India's highest civilian award, posthumously.

Ratan Tata, who served as the Chairman Emeritus of Tata Sons, died at the age of 86 in Mumbai's Breach Candy Hospital. Maharashtra has declared a day of mourning to honor him. The loss is being acknowledged nationwide, with tributes from leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

Born in 1937, Tata led the Tata Group and its philanthropic trusts, leaving a legacy recognized globally. He was previously awarded the Padma Vibhushan, the country's second-highest civilian honor.
