Guwahati Lights Up: CM Sarma Unveils Smart Street Lighting

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has emphasized Guwahati's emerging role as the Gateway to Southeast Asia by inaugurating the initial phase of Smart Street Lighting with Centralized Control and Monitoring Systems. The inauguration took place on Wednesday evening at Nandi Mikir Primary School, Chachal, marking a significant step in urban modernization efforts.
Guwahati Smart City Limited spearheads this Rs 83.96-crore initiative, which aims to install 20,667 smart streetlights across the city. Over 11,000 have already been energized, illuminating 944 lanes. The project leverages advanced cloud-based technology for remote management and control, optimizing both light efficiency and operational cost savings.
Chief Minister Sarma highlighted the government's commitment over recent years to improving urban living conditions. He noted the establishment of the Guwahati Utility Corporation, a joint effort between local government bodies, to advance the city's street lighting systems. This includes upcoming projects like bridges and integrated city expansions to alleviate infrastructure stress.
