Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu announced on Thursday plans to significantly boost the state's sports infrastructure. Speaking at a review meeting at the State Secretariat on Youth Services and Sports, he criticized the YSRCP government for halting the construction of sports facilities initiated by the previous TDP regime.
Naidu directed officials to expedite the completion of playgrounds, stadiums, and sports development centers across the state, with Rs 23 crore allocated for this purpose. He stressed the importance of engaging all sections of society in sports and physical activities, not just professional athletes.
The Chief Minister recalled the widespread practice of playing kabaddi and volleyball in villages and noted its decline due to modern entertainment systems. He urged local communities, NRIs, and industrialists to help fund new playgrounds, which could be named in their honor, aiming to facilitate Andhra Pradesh's bid to host the 2027 national games and develop a new sports policy.
Naidu also called for the establishment of sports hubs in Tirupati, Amaravathi, and Visakhapatnam, and the creation of sports centers in district collectorates and other government offices to enhance the state's performance in national and international events.
