In a significant move to bolster infrastructure, the Union Cabinet led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved the construction of 2,280 kilometers of roads in the border areas of Rajasthan and Punjab. This Rs4,406 crore initiative aims to enhance rural livelihoods and improve connectivity with national highways, a major stride in regional development.

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw highlighted this transformative vision during a press briefing, emphasizing the shift from viewing these areas as 'last villages' to 'first villages.' The Cabinet's decision builds on the 'Vibrant Village Program,' focusing on improved road and telecom connectivity, reflecting a strategic change to uplift border regions with facilities comparable to urban areas.

Additionally, the Cabinet approved the development of the largest National Maritime Heritage Complex in the world at Lothal, Gujarat, showcasing India's maritime legacy. In another significant decision, the government announced the continuation of fortified rice distribution under multiple schemes to tackle nutritional deficiencies, securing central funding till 2028.
