The European Commission announced on Wednesday that it would propose a one-year delay in implementing its flagship policy aimed at combating deforestation. This move comes in response to calls from various industries and countries, seeking additional time to comply with the new regulations.

Under the deforestation law, starting from December 30, companies that sell soy, beef, coffee, palm oil, and other products within the 27-nation bloc will be required to demonstrate that their supply chains do not contribute to forest destruction.

The delay is intended to give businesses and nations sufficient time to adapt to the stringent new rules designed to protect the world's forests.
