Delhi police announced they have apprehended Rajnish, one of the suspects in the fatal incident involving a police constable on September 29 in Nangloi. Efforts are ongoing to detain the second suspect. Tis Hazari Court has granted a three-day custody remand of Rajnish to the police.
The apprehended suspect, Rajnish, was tracked down while the offending vehicle was seized. According to Delhi police, multiple teams have been deployed for the investigation, leading to several raids across Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Haryana. Police stressed that active measures are in place to capture the second accused.
In a related development, a habeas corpus petition was brought before the Delhi High Court concerning an alleged road rage episode that led to the constable's death. The petition, filed by the counsel, claims that the wife of the accused has been taken into custody by Delhi Police. The advocate highlighted that the accused fled the scene, resulting in the wrongful detention of a family member (the wife).
The bench, comprising Chief Justice Manmohan and Justice Tushar Rao Gedela, has scheduled a hearing for October 1 to scrutinize the legality of the wife's alleged detention. The petition seeks her release from what it terms as illegal custody.
The tragic road rage incident in Nangloi resulted in the death of 30-year-old Constable Sandeep, who was dragged for approximately 10 meters by a speeding car. The incident occurred when Sandeep asked the driver to decelerate, following which the driver accelerated, striking Sandeep's motorcycle. Both were dragged along the road before colliding with another vehicle. Although the involved car has been seized, the driver remains at large. CCTV footage has been pivotal in aiding the ongoing investigation.
With the suspect on the run, the investigation is being pursued vigorously by law enforcement agencies. (ANI)
