Taiwan Eases 2011 Fukushima Food Import Restrictions

Taiwan has relaxed its food import restrictions from Japan, set after Fukushima's 2011 nuclear accident. The ban lift includes wild game, mushrooms, and wild vegetables from Fukushima and nearby areas, contingent on documentation of radiation tests and product origins. It follows a recent Japan-Beijing wastewater discharge agreement.

Taiwan has relaxed restrictions on food imports from Japan, a measure that had been in place since the 2011 Fukushima nuclear accident, the Japanese agriculture ministry announced on Wednesday.

The relaxed restrictions permit the import of wild game meat, mushrooms, and wild vegetables known as Koshiabura from Fukushima and four neighboring prefectures, given that proper documentation on radiation tests and product origins is provided.

This development comes on the heels of an agreement between Tokyo and Beijing over the discharge of wastewater from the compromised plant, which has permitted the resumption of seafood shipments from Japan to China.
