Norway Resumes Defense Exports to Turkey After Lifting Restrictions
Norway has lifted its 2019 restrictions on exporting defense and multi-purpose military goods to Turkey, normalizing its licensing practices. This decision aligns with other European nations initially suspending arms sales due to Turkey's military actions in Syria. Turkey's foreign ministry expressed approval of the move.
Norway has decided to normalize its export practices for defense material and multi-purpose military goods to Turkey, following a suspension imposed in 2019, the government announced on Wednesday.
The foreign ministry clarified that the restrictions imposed in 2019 would be lifted, returning to regular licensing procedures for arms exports to Turkey. Norway had joined several European countries in halting new arms sales to the NATO member due to concerns over its military operations against Kurdish forces in northern Syria.
The Turkish foreign ministry welcomed Norway's decision, praising the move.
