The Territorial Army has successfully concluded a grueling 54-day expedition from the Siachen Glacier to Indira Point (Sri Vijay Puram) as part of its platinum jubilee celebrations. The team covered approximately 5,500 kilometers using a combination of land, air, and sea routes.

Flagged off on July 30 by the commander of the Siachen Brigade, the team navigated the challenging high-altitude terrains of Ladakh and Himachal Pradesh. Upon reaching Delhi on August 22, 2024, they paid homage at the National War Memorial and received a formal send-off from Deputy Chief of Army Staff Lt Gen Rakesh Kapoor and Director General Territorial Army Lt Gen Raju Baijal for their onward journey.

Throughout the expedition, the team engaged with local villagers, civilians, students, and NCC cadets to spread awareness about the Indian Army and Territorial Army, while also promoting environmental consciousness. They took part in plantation drives and motivated youth to consider Army careers.

The team arrived in Chennai on September 13, 2024, and traveled by air to Sri Vijay Puram (formerly Port Blair), where they were welcomed by Commander-in-Chief Andaman Nicobar Command, Air Marshal S Balakrishnan. They cycled through local villages and sailed between islands, reaching Indira Point on September 21, 2024, to culminate their journey.

In a symbolic gesture, the team hoisted the Indian Tricolour underwater at Indira Point, the country's southernmost tip, which was submerged during the 2004 Tsunami. (ANI)
