Ukraine Strikes Deep Inside Russia: A Growing Capability
Ukraine claimed on Saturday to have attacked two Russian munition depots, marking a significant enhancement in its ability to strike deep inside Russian territory. The attacks, carried out with drones, targeted depots in Krasnodar and Tver regions. Russian officials have initiated local emergency measures in response.
Ukraine announced on Saturday that it had struck two Russian munitions depots overnight, showcasing its increasing ability to target locations deep within Russian territory.
Russian authorities confirmed the Ukrainian assault on a depot in the southern Krasnodar region, attributing the attack to drones. They implemented local emergency protocols to counteract the impact. According to Ukraine's military general staff, the attacked depots were in Tikhoretsk, Krasnodar, and Oktyabrsky, Tver.
Ukraine's general staff stressed the strategic importance of the Tikhoretsk facility, calling it one of the largest ammunition storages in Russia. They indicated that the depot contained 2,000 tonnes of munitions at the time, including supplies from North Korea.
A Ukrainian security source, who requested anonymity, revealed that the domestic SBU intelligence agency executed these operations in collaboration with the Ukrainian military. Meanwhile, Russian officials have evacuated residents affected by the attacks and introduced measures to ensure their safety.
Over the past year, Ukraine's SBU has conducted regular drone strikes deep inside Russian territory. In related developments, Ukraine continues its efforts to bridge the armament gap with Russia by seeking Western allies' approval to use long-range missiles. An unrelated Russian missile strike in Kryvyi Rih recently killed a 12-year-old boy and two elderly women.
