Notorious Criminal 'Kakka Thoppu' Balaji Killed in Chennai Police Encounter

In a significant development, Chennai police shot dead notorious history-sheeter Kakka Thoppu Balaji during an encounter in the remote area of Viyasarpadi. Police sources disclosed the incident unfolded early in the morning during a routine vehicle inspection at Mullaiagar Checkpost.
As per police statements, officers encountered a suspicious vehicle with two occupants who hesitated to comply with instructions. Upon insistence, one individual exited the vehicle with a bag, while Balaji, the other occupant, fled the scene. A subsequent chase led to Balaji firing two rounds at the police, who responded with a single shot to the chest that proved fatal. He was declared dead after being transported to Stanley Hospital, and his body was later moved to Royapet Government Hospital.
The police seized a sickle and approximately 10 kg of ganja from the vehicle. North Chennai JC Pravesh Kumar, Pulianthope DC Muthukumar, and a forensic team inspected the site. The other suspect, identified as Sathyamoorthy, is currently under interrogation. Despite allegations of police misconduct from Balaji's relatives, authorities are proceeding with the investigation and will submit a detailed report to the Magistrate. This marks the city's second police encounter following the Armstrong murder case.
