Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant inaugurated the 'Cancer Screening Abhiyan' on Saturday with the deployment of a mobile cancer-detecting van in North Goa. This initiative is designed to facilitate early cancer detection through services like x-rays, mammography, and blood investigations.

'The Goa government has commenced a pre-cancer detection camp, collaborating with Goa Medical College, Goa Dental College, and the Directorate of Health Services. Union Minister Sripad Naik spearheaded the initiative under CSR, providing us with this pre-detection bus,' said Chief Minister Sawant. 'The bus, costing approximately Rs 3 crores, will offer facilities like x-ray, mammography, and blood investigation, significantly aiding in the early detection of cancer,' he added.

Another significant effort by the Goa government to combat cancer is the Swasth Mahila Swasth Goa Initiative, launched in 2021. This project, backed by SBI under CSR, the Yuvraj Singh Foundation (You We Can), and the Government of Goa, aims to reduce advanced breast cancer cases. With funding from the Indian Institute of Banking and Finance and support from the SBI Foundation, the initiative offers free breast cancer screenings using 'iBreast' devices and ensures free treatment for all detected cases, supported by the Government of Goa.
