Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi paid homage to CPI(M) General Secretary Sitaram Yechury at the CPI office in Delhi on Saturday. Among the mourners were Congress leaders Jairam Ramesh, Ajay Maken, Rajeev Shukla, and numerous CPI(M) leaders and supporters.

Yechury's body was transported from his residence in Vasant Kunj to the party's office. He died on September 12 at AIIMS Hospital due to a respiratory tract infection.

In a conversation with ANI, Kerala Minister P Rajeev noted the significant void Yechury's death leaves in national politics. Rajeev reflected on his time with Yechury, describing him as a pivotal figure in the party whose decisions were highly respected. Rajeev lamented, "It is a big loss to the party, the left and the country."

Union Minister and BJP national President JP Nadda, who paid his respects on Friday, underscored Yechury's commitment to his ideology and his ability to maintain relationships across differing viewpoints. Nadda remarked, "He believed in agreeing to disagree, which he often said was the beauty of democracy."

Reflecting on their long-standing acquaintance since their days at JNU, Nadda highlighted Yechury's humanistic approach and firm ideological stance. "He devoted his entire life to his ideas but never neglected personal relationships. His absence is deeply felt," Nadda added.
