Russia's Foreign Ministry called the use of exploding pagers against the Lebanese group Hezbollah an act of hybrid war, affecting thousands of innocent citizens. Two sources, including a senior Lebanese security official, informed Reuters that Israel's Mossad spy agency had hidden explosives in around 5,000 pagers months ago, which detonated on Tuesday.
The explosions took place simultaneously across Lebanon, claiming the lives of nine people and wounding nearly 3,000 others, including some Hezbollah fighters and the Iranian envoy to Beirut. Maria Zakharova, spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry, released a statement condemning the attack.
'We consider this a hybrid warfare tactic against Lebanon that has resulted in significant civilian casualties,' Zakharova noted. 'It seems the perpetrators intended to incite a large-scale conflict, potentially sparking a major war in the Middle East.'
