In a significant legal development, the Rouse Avenue court on Wednesday acquitted former Delhi Minister Sandeep Kumar of charges related to rape and prevention of corruption dating back to 2016. The ex-minister previously held portfolios for women and children, social welfare, and the SC-ST Department.
Special Judge Kaveri Baweja delivered the verdict, acquitting Kumar of all charges. Advocates Sanjay Gupta and Rajkamal Arya represented Kumar in the court proceedings. The charges framed included allegations of raping a woman after administering a sedative and offenses under the Prevention of Corruption Act and the IT Act.
According to the FIR lodged in 2016, Kumar allegedly called the victim to his residence under the guise of assisting with ration card-related work. He subsequently raped her and filmed the act, which was later circulated. Delhi police filed the FIR based on the prosecutrix's statement, who had reported visiting Kumar's house around 11 months prior in hopes of obtaining a BPL card. The allegations included that she was given a sedative-laced cold drink before the assault. (ANI)
