IIT Guwahati has expressed deep concern over the recent death of a third-year BTech student on campus and stated its commitment to establishing a safe and supportive environment for all students. The incident, which occurred on Monday, sparked student protests at the institution.

In an official statement, IIT Guwahati announced that a decision regarding the resignation submitted by the Dean will be made soon. The institute is currently undertaking a comprehensive review of its safety and emergency response protocols and conducting campaigns to raise awareness about mental well-being. Students were urged to halt protests and return to their academic pursuits.

The statement highlighted that the well-being of the student community is a top priority. The new Director, who recently engaged in extensive discussions with students, is committed to addressing their concerns. Immediate measures being implemented include enhanced well-being services and a review of safety protocols to prevent future tragedies.

The statement detailed specific initiatives such as expanding access to professional support, establishing peer support networks, and launching awareness campaigns to reduce stigma and promote help-seeking behaviors.
