A shocking incident took place in Chhattisgarh's Sakti district where a woman with a mental health condition was raped by three relatives, as reported by an official on Wednesday.
The heinous crime occurred on Monday in a village within Dabhra police station limits. The suspects were detained the following morning after the assault was reported to the authorities.
According to the official, the accused, who were inebriated, lured the woman, who is in her early twenties, to an abandoned house. Some children playing near the house sensed something was wrong and alerted villagers. Two suspects fled, while the third was apprehended and beaten by locals.
Upon being informed by the villagers, police quickly traced the other two suspects and a team was dispatched to arrest all three perpetrators.
Villagers indicated that the attackers are related to the rape survivor and that two had prior involvement in the illegal sale of country-made liquor. A case has been filed under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and an investigation is ongoing, the official added.
