J&K Security Forces Gear Up for First Post-Article 370 Assembly Elections

In preparation for the upcoming assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir, Inspector General of Police Kashmir, VK Birdi, led a comprehensive security review meeting at the range police headquarters in Anantnag. The meeting was attended by senior officers including DIG SKR Anantnag, Javid Iqbal Matoo, Commander 1st Sector, and representatives from CRPF, BSF, and ITBP.

During the meeting, a detailed outline of security arrangements was presented, covering camping locations for CAPF companies, the positioning of polling booths and strong rooms, and logistical support. Special emphasis was laid on the security of polling stations. IGP Birdi called for close coordination among all security agencies and proactive measures to ensure peaceful elections. Officers were directed to keep vigilant watch on anti-national elements and ensure safe movement of security forces on highways.

Following the meeting, IGP Birdi visited several CAPF camping sites in Anantnag to assess on-ground arrangements and issued directions to provide adequate facilities for officers and personnel. A thorough review of election strategies and action plans concluded the visit, reinforcing the commitment to maintain peace during the electoral process.

The Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections are scheduled to take place in three phases on September 18, 25, and October 1, with counting on October 8. A total of 90 constituencies will be contested, with specific seats reserved for SC and ST communities. This marks the first assembly elections since the revocation of Article 370, adding to the significance of the event.

In the previous assembly elections, the People's Democratic Party won 28 seats, Bharatiya Janata Party secured 25, Jammu and Kashmir National Conference won 15, and Congress won 12 seats.
