Hundreds of Samsung Electronics employees have continued their strike for a second day at a key plant in southern India, demanding higher wages and better working conditions. The strike has disrupted operations at the South Korean giant's factory in Sriperumbudur, near Chennai, where tents have been set up by protesting workers who are boycotting work.

The Sriperumbudur plant is one of Samsung's two plants in India and plays a crucial role in the company's growth in the market, accounting for 20%-30% of its annual $12 billion revenue in the country. The factory, which employs 1,800 workers, manufactures consumer electronics such as refrigerators, washing machines, and televisions.

On Monday, the strike significantly affected production, with around half of the daily output impacted as many workers did not turn up. Protests are continuing with demands for higher wages, better working hours, and union recognition. Samsung India has yet to comment, but a spokesperson previously mentioned the company's commitment to engaging with workers and complying with laws. The protests follow recent strikes by Samsung's union in South Korea, indicating broader discontent among the company's labor force.
