Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami participated in the 'Himalaya Day' event at Mukhya Sevak Sadan in the Chief Minister's residence, urging collective action against climate change impacting the Himalayas. According to an official release from the Chief Minister's Office, Dhami announced the formation of a committee in collaboration with UCOST Director General Durgesh Pant to tackle issues concerning the Himalayas.

Dhami underscored the importance of conserving the Himalayas, water, and forests, especially in the wake of rising temperatures in Dehradun. 'If the temperature continues to increase, it spells trouble for future generations,' Dhami warned. He emphasized leaving a positive environmental legacy and stressed the importance of community efforts in conserving natural resources.

During the event, CM Dhami unveiled the poster for the state-level fifth Dehradun International Science and Technology Festival, organized by UCOST. This festival will occur in engineering colleges across six districts, including Dehradun, Chamoli, and Uttarkashi. He also advocated for celebrating Bugyal Conservation Day annually on September 2, highlighting the rapid climate changes and the necessity for sustained conservation efforts.

Chief Minister Dhami acknowledged the disasters that have struck both the state and the country recently. He cited the successful rescue operation at the Silkyara Tunnel last year, attributing the success to global technological support facilitated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Dhami called for recognizing the Himalayas' significance and continuous governmental efforts for water source and river rejuvenation.

Dhami highlighted the state's pioneering Gross Environment Product (GEP) index and sustainable development balancing ecology and economy. He appealed for public participation in plantation, water conservation, and environmental projects to ensure success. At a NITI Aayog meeting, he advocated for specialized plans for the Himalayas to address the significant influx of visitors and promote sustainable tourism.

Dr. Anil Prakash Joshi, HESCO founder, praised Dhami's initiatives for Himalayan conservation. He stressed the importance of political action and collaboration among major institutions to drive effective conservation strategies. UCOST Director General Durgesh Pant announced that Himalaya Week, from September 2 to 9, would feature various programs discussing conservation and promotion of the Himalayas.
