A major deposit of petroleum and natural gas has been found in Pakistan's territorial waters, a discovery with the potential to reshape the country's economic landscape, according to recent media reports.
The findings come after a three-year survey conducted in collaboration with a friendly nation, as revealed by a senior security official to DawnNewsTV. The geographic survey successfully identified the deposits, and relevant departments have already briefed the government.
Labeling it a venture to benefit from the 'blue water economy,' the official mentioned that proposals for bidding and exploration are being evaluated, allowing for exploration to start soon. However, actual extraction of oil may take several years. The discovery might be one of the world's largest oil and gas reserves, which could drastically improve Pakistan's economy if exploited efficiently.
