Odisha Government Launches 'Sahaya' Scheme to Assist Over 3,000 Beggars

In a significant move towards social welfare, the Odisha government has identified 3,009 beggars in the state to receive aid under the new 'Sahaya' scheme, as announced in the State Assembly.
Social Security and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities Minister, Nityananda Gond, revealed that rehabilitation centers have been established in several districts, aiming for the comprehensive rehabilitation of beggars under this initiative.
Among the 30 districts, Boudh, Deogarh, Ganjam, Jagatsinghpur, Jajpur, and Malkangiri have been declared beggar-free. Additionally, the scheme covers socio-economic development measures like scholarships, skill development, inclusion in self-help groups, and financial aid for marriage of daughters.
