The Chairman of the Airports Authority of India (AAI), M Suresh, has underscored the immense advantages of DigiYatra, a newly introduced facility aimed at streamlining passenger movement within airports. Speaking to ANI following the launch of DigiYatra services at nine airports, including Visakhapatnam International Airport on Friday, Suresh mentioned that the service is designed to cut down the time passengers spend checking in.

"DigiYatra ensures smooth airport movement by allowing passengers to travel paperless, eliminating the need for paper tickets and photo IDs," Suresh said. He also highlighted the system's use of digital methods for highly accurate security verification. With DigiYatra, passengers need only to carry a mobile phone, identity card, ticket, and boarding pass, facilitating unimpeded movement within the airport. "This benefits both passengers and airport staff, reducing tasks that previously took 15 minutes to just 4 minutes," he added.

The Ministry of Civil Aviation's broader initiative includes expanding DigiYatra to airports in Visakhapatnam, Patna, Raipur, Bhubaneswar, Goa (Dabolim), Indore, Ranchi, Coimbatore, and Bagdogra. Civil Aviation Minister Rammohan Naidu Kinjarapu, who launched the service in Visakhapatnam and virtually at other airports, emphasized the project's potential to alleviate staff workload and significantly enhance passenger experience.

Frequent traveler Krishna from Bangalore lauded DigiYatra as an exceptional, user-friendly technological advancement, while another passenger, Balaji, noted its time-saving benefits and advocated for its nationwide launch. The event at Visakhapatnam also saw the virtual attendance of Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation and Cooperation Murlidhar Mohol, alongside senior officials from the Ministry of Civil Aviation and AAI. The DigiYatra project, conceived by the Ministry of Civil Aviation, seeks to achieve contactless, seamless passenger processing using Facial Recognition Technology (FRT).

In his address, the Civil Aviation Minister described DigiYatra as a "game-changing technological advancement" for the industry, already embraced by over 3 Crore users. He reiterated the Ministry's commitment to implementing this facility across all Indian airports, assuring robust data protection for passengers. As DigiYatra expands, both passengers and airport staff can look forward to a more efficient air travel experience, setting a new benchmark in aviation.
