Railway employees at the South East Central Railway Wagon Repair Shop have embarked on a unique Ganesh Chaturthi celebration by crafting a 12-foot idol of Lord Ganesha entirely from scrap materials. This innovative effort is transforming discarded train parts into a festive symbol.

Artist Ashok Devangan, a long-time employee and creator of scrap artworks, spearheads the project. Devangan explained, 'In Raipur's wagon repair shop, where goods trains are repaired, a lot of railway scrap comes out. For the last 15 years, I have been creating artwork here. Children come here for training from various states. About 15-20 days ago, some children from Maharashtra made a basic idol of Lord Ganesha from scrap, which we are now completing with a team of four to five people.'

The idol, weighing about a thousand kilos, utilizes parts such as springs, nuts, and bolts to form intricate details like Ganesha's trunk, teeth, and earrings. Associate Amit Mandal commented on the collaborative effort, noting the welding of different metals. The completed idol will be installed within their auditorium for public exhibition during Ganesh Chaturthi.
