Puducherry Electricity Minister A Namassivayam announced on Monday that the territorial government will provide subsidies in tariffs to domestic power consumers.

In a press release, Namassivayam said the government took into account the burden on domestic power consumers due to rising tariffs and decided to grant subsidies under the Electricity Act 2003.

Effective from June 16, domestic consumers will be charged Rs 2.25 per unit for the first 100 units and Rs 3.60 per unit for 101 to 200 units, thanks to subsidies ranging from 40 to 50 paise per unit. The agricultural sector will receive power free of charge.
