The Congress party on Monday released its second list of six candidates for the upcoming Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir. Tariq Hameed Karra will represent the Central Shalteng constituency, Mumtaz Khan from Reasi, Bhupender Jamwal from Shri Mata Vaishno Devi, Iftkar Ahmed from Rajouri (ST), Shabir Ahmad Khan from Thannamandi (ST), and Mohd Shahnawaz Choudhary from Surankote (ST).

This announcement came after a meeting of Congress' Central Election Committee at its headquarters in New Delhi. The party had earlier revealed its first list of nine candidates signed by All India Congress Committee (AICC) General Secretary K.C. Venugopal on August 27. Key candidates from this list include Ghulam Ahmad Mir from Dooru, Vikar Rasool Wani from Banihal, Peerzada Mohd Syed for Anantnag, and Sheikh Riaz for Doda.

Furthermore, Congress and the National Conference (NC) have formed an alliance for the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections. The NC will contest 51 out of 90 seats while Congress will vie for 32, with both parties contending five seats against each other. Support from the Samajwadi Party (SP) also bolsters this coalition. These elections, the first since the abrogation of Article 370, are set to take place in three phases on September 18, 25, and October 1, with vote counting scheduled for October 8.
