Assam Government Surpasses Employment Goals, Fulfills Election Promise

The Assam Government has reached a significant milestone in the state's employment sector, fulfilling its 2021 election promise of providing 1 lakh government jobs, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Monday. The declaration followed the distribution of 23,956 appointment letters to new recruits, raising the total number of government jobs created since 2021 to an impressive 1,24,345.

Using his social media platform on X, CM Sarma proclaimed, "Assam has achieved another milestone. In 2021, we came to power promising 1 lakh government jobs. Today, with the handover of 23,956 appointment letters, Assam has offered 1,24,345 jobs till date. With this, we have met a longstanding demand of our teachers." The post further stated, "By May 2025, we will create 50,000 more jobs, taking the total to 2 lakhs. Each of these jobs has been delivered without a single instance of corruption."

The ceremonial distribution of permanent teacher appointment letters to 23,956 contractual teachers under Samagra Skiksha took place at Khanapara Veterinary College Field in Guwahati. Earlier, Assam Education Minister Ranoj Pegu also expressed on X, "Promise fulfilled! The teachers will be posted in the schools where they were previously serving as SSA/Statepool contractual teachers. Candidates on the 'withheld' list are advised to contact the Director of Elementary Education with their documents."

Following a High Court order in WA 291/2024, which lifted the stay on an advertisement dated 5th August 2024, for the Special Recruitment Drive for experienced SSA and State Pool contractual teachers, the Assam government is advancing with the selection process. According to Education Minister Pegu, 27,790 candidates have applied, and the Education Department has completed the verification and selection process. The 2021 assembly election saw Chief Minister Sarma commit to providing one lakh government jobs in the state.

Government data shows that, up until August 26 this year, appointment letters were distributed to 1,00,389 candidates, including Government of Assam employees in Bodoland Territorial Council and Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council. (ANI)
