Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister, Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, asserted on Sunday that the state is not facing a financial crisis but is instead implementing strategic financial management measures. He accused the BJP of politicizing the state's financial condition and assured the public that all promises made to them would be fulfilled.
Sukhu pledged that by 2027, Himachal Pradesh would become self-reliant and the most prosperous state in India. He dismissed reports of a financial crisis as misleading, characterizing the situation as a period of reform. "The restrictions placed on salaries are intended to instill future financial discipline," he noted, explaining that such measures have already markedly improved the economy.
Highlighting the state's debt of Rs 85,000 crore and additional liabilities of Rs 10,000 crore to employees, Sukhu reassured the public that despite these challenges, his government will deliver on its promises. He defended the financial austerity measures, describing them as crucial for economic strengthening through sustained capital expenditure, road building, and other developmental activities.
