Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar has urged the establishment of a robust punitive ecosystem to deter crimes against women, following the harrowing alleged rape and murder of a doctor at Kolkata's RG Kar Hospital.
Addressing students at Delhi University's Bharti College, Dhankhar echoed President Droupadi Murmu's strong stance, expressed in her exclusive article for PTI titled 'Women's Safety: Enough is Enough.' This statement was Murmu's first public commentary on the tragic August 9 incident in Kolkata, which has ignited national fury and sustained protests.
Dhankhar condemned the culture of impunity surrounding such crimes and slammed narratives that normalize or justify these atrocities. He emphasized the importance of national unity in addressing these issues, urging students to prioritize national interest over political and ideological differences.
