Doctors aligned with the West Bengal Junior Doctors' Front staged a protest march from Shyambazar to Dharamtala on Wednesday, seeking justice for a female trainee doctor who was raped and murdered at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. The brutal incident has triggered widespread outrage across the country.

The tragic rape and murder on the RG Kar Medical College premises have rattled the nation, leading to a series of protests demanding justice for the victim. Earlier today, Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan and Union Health Secretary Apurva Chandra held a virtual meeting with Chief Secretaries and DGPs of various states to discuss urgent security measures for doctors and healthcare professionals, especially in the aftermath of the Kolkata incident.

The protest rally coincided with the BJP's 12-hour Bangla Bandh on Wednesday, which aims to underscore the escalating frustrations within the medical community over inadequate safety protocols and delayed justice. In Asansol, BJP workers blocked railway tracks as part of the protests. On August 27, Kolkata's Howrah Bridge saw chaos as security forces used tear gas, water cannons, and lathi-charges to disperse protesters marching towards the West Bengal State Secretariat, Nabanna.

Adding to the voices of dissent, Parimal Dey, a teacher from Alipurduar, returned his Banga Ratna award, previously conferred by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, in protest of the state's handling of the incident. The trainee doctor's body was discovered in the seminar hall of RG Kar Medical College on August 9, sparking a sequence of nationwide protests.
