In a significant policy decision, the Union Cabinet, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Saturday sanctioned the 'BioE3 (Biotechnology for Economy, Environment, and Employment)' to boost biomanufacturing, according to Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. The policy aims to provide innovation-driven support for research, development, and entrepreneurship across various sectors.

Minister Vaishnaw emphasized that the policy will expedite technology development and commercialization through the establishment of Biomanufacturing & Bio-AI hubs and Biofoundries. This initiative will also prioritize the regenerative bioeconomy models, facilitating green growth and expanding India's skilled workforce, thereby generating numerous job opportunities.

The BioE3 Policy aligns with the government's vision for a 'Net Zero' carbon economy and 'Lifestyle for Environment', aiming to guide India towards accelerated green growth by promoting a Circular Bioeconomy. This policy will lay the foundation for a sustainable and innovative future, addressing global challenges and supporting the Bio-vision for a developed India, Viksit Bharat. An official release highlighted the importance of investing in the industrialization of biology to tackle critical societal issues like climate change, food security, and human health by building a resilient biomanufacturing ecosystem for developing bio-based products.

To meet national priorities, the BioE3 Policy will focus on strategic sectors including high-value bio-based chemicals, biopolymers, smart proteins, precision biotherapeutics, climate-resilient agriculture, carbon capture, and marine and space research, stated the official release.
