Parliament Prorogued Early as Modi 3.0 Govt Presents Historic Budget
President Murmu prorogued both houses of Parliament early on August 9. The session saw Finance Minister Sitharaman present her record-breaking seventh Union Budget, amidst significant legislative activity and protests.

President Droupadi Murmu on Tuesday prorogued both the Rajya Sabha and the Lok Sabha, which were adjourned sine die on August 9, one sitting ahead of the scheduled end of the Budget session. This session featured the newly elected Modi 3.0 government presenting its Union Budget for 2024-25.
The previous session of Parliament, which was scheduled to end on August 12, saw the Lok Sabha adjourned sine die by Speaker Om Birla on August 9. The Rajya Sabha followed suit on the same day.
During the session, running from July 22 to August 12, the Finance Bill was passed, and a bill to amend the Waqf law was introduced and referred to a joint committee amid protests. On July 23, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the Union Budget 2024-25, making her the first finance minister to present seven consecutive Union Budgets, surpassing Morarji Desai's record. This was the first Budget of Narendra Modi's third term as Prime Minister.
