The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) announced nine candidates for the upcoming Rajya Sabha by-elections on Tuesday. Union Minister of State for Railways and Food Processing Industries, Ravneet Singh Bittu, will contest from Rajasthan. Bittu previously lost the Lok Sabha elections from Ludhiana.

Minister of State for Fisheries and Animal Husbandry, George Kurian, is set to contend for a seat from Madhya Pradesh. Kiran Choudhary, a former Congress leader who joined the BJP earlier this year, will be running from Haryana.

In Bihar, the party has nominated Manan Kumar Mishra, Chairman of the Bar Council of India. Other noteworthy candidates include Dhairyashil Patil from Maharashtra, Mamta Mohanta from Odisha, Rajib Bhattacharjee from Tripura, and Mission Ranjan Das from Assam. Former Union Minister Rameswar Teli will also be running from Assam. The Election Commission has scheduled the by-elections for 12 vacant Rajya Sabha seats on September 3. These vacancies primarily arose as the Rajya Sabha members were elected to the Lok Sabha. The BJP-led NDA aims to secure a majority in the Rajya Sabha following these by-elections.
