The Delhi High Court Bar Association (DHCBA) announced it will wear white ribbon bands on Wednesday in a demonstration of protest and to honor a rape victim and her family. This action follows the barbaric rape and murder of a postgraduate trainee doctor at Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. The DHCBA has strongly condemned this heinous crime.

During an emergency session, the DHCBA's Executive Committee unanimously called for severe legal action against the culprits and urged both Central and State Governments to implement policies that prevent such incidents and enhance women's safety. The committee also committed to providing pro-bono legal assistance to the victim's family to ensure justice.

'We condemn the horrifying incident at RG Kar Medical College and appeal for immediate and stringent action against the offenders,' read the resolution. 'We also appeal to the Central and State Governments to take necessary measures to prevent recurrence of such incidents and improve women's security nationwide. To honor the victim and her family, DHCBA members will wear white ribbons on August 21, 2024.'
