In a fiery critique, Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge have targeted the central government over its handling of Khadi and the national flag. Gandhi, in a recent editorial, and Kharge, through social media, have alleged that Mahatma Gandhi's Khadi is losing its identity due to market misregulation.

Sonia Gandhi slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'Har Ghar Tiranga' campaign, calling attention to the moral duplicity associated with promoting the national flag while endorsing machine-made polyester alternatives. She pointed out that the 2022 amendment to the Flag Code of India, which includes machine-made polyester bunting, has harmed Khadi's legacy.

Kharge echoed these sentiments on X, accusing the government of failing to regulate the Khadi market and to promote Indian handlooms globally. He emphasized that traditional Khadi spinners are suffering economically, earning meager wages despite their strenuous labor.
