Karnataka Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot's decision to grant permission for the prosecution of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in the alleged Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) scam has intensified the political climate. BJP MP Tejasvi Surya on Saturday urged the CM to step down to ensure an impartial investigation, stating, 'The nature of the allegations is very serious.'
In defense of the governor's decision, state BJP President BY Vijayendra noted that the move was within the governor's constitutional powers. He asserted on social media platform X that the governor's action allowed for legal proceedings to commence against Siddaramaiah's alleged involvement in the MUDA scam.
However, the Karnataka government, deeming the permission politically motivated, announced plans to challenge the governor's decision in the High Court. Senior minister Priyank Kharge criticized the BJP for using the governor's office to undermine the state's democratically elected government. 'We stand firm with the Constitution on our side,' he declared.
