Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Kumar Goyal has called on the public to disregard 'rumors' and 'narratives' crafted by certain groups concerning the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata. He underscored the importance of trusting the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which is presently handling the case.

'A three-member team conducted the postmortem, and it was recorded on video,' Goyal stated. 'The CBI has access to the postmortem footage, ensuring complete transparency.'

Goyal refuted claims that the police had misled the victim's family by suggesting that she had committed suicide. He reiterated that the police are fully cooperating with the CBI and urged the public to have faith in both agencies. Addressing the media, Goyal expressed concern over the spread of baseless rumors by so-called experts and stressed the legal accountability of officers for any transgressions.

The Police Commissioner also dismissed allegations that the police had abused their power to hush up the case. He confirmed that all evidence was collected in a transparent manner, with videography conducted in the presence of family and friends. Meanwhile, 25 individuals have been arrested in connection with vandalism at RG Kar Hospital campus on August 14.

A mob caused significant damage to the protest site and public property at RG Kar Hospital, prompting intervention by security officials. Kolkata police confirmed the arrests via their official social media handle and announced an ongoing search for remaining suspects. Moreover, CBI officials visited the hospital to obtain a digital blueprint of the crime scene as part of their probe on Thursday.

Amid continuing protests, the CBI has summoned four doctors from the hospital for interrogation, and the accused, Sanjoy Roy, underwent a medical examination at CBI's Special Crime Branch. Medical professionals nationwide, including those at Gandhi Hospital in Hyderabad, have held demonstrations demanding justice for the victim.

On August 9, a post-graduate trainee doctor was found deceased in the seminar hall of RG Kar Medical College. The victim's family has alleged she was raped and murdered, sparking a wave of protests by the medical community across the country.
