As India gears up for its 78th Independence Day, Delhi has implemented a heavy security cordon with Prime Minister Narendra Modi set to lead the celebrations. Modi will unfurl the Tricolour at the Red Fort and deliver his customary address to the nation. To ensure a secure event, the Delhi Police have enhanced surveillance, vehicle checks, and patrols across the city.
Security personnel are strategically deployed around the Red Fort. Bomb disposal units and dog squads are active in the vicinity. Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) North, Manoj Kumar Meena, stated that advanced CCTV analytics have been installed to minimize human error and quickly detect any suspicious activities. "This year, the Delhi Police is making thorough arrangements to accommodate around 22,000 attendees comfortably," Meena said.
Special cameras on Door Frame Metal Detectors (DFMD) connected to a facial recognition system will monitor invitees. Over 10,000 security personnel, including Delhi Police and paramilitary forces, are securing critical locations. Central Delhi has a CCTV Control Room with real-time feeds from 437 newly installed cameras. Inspector Pradeep Rawat stated, "We communicate any suspicious activity to patrolling teams through these feeds." Intensive preparations, including mock drills and security assessments, are ongoing ahead of the celebrations.
