BJP MP from South Bangalore, Tejasvi Surya, on Monday, drew attention to the absence of key municipal figures in Bengaluru's governance. Highlighting the issue via social media platform X, Surya pointed out the lack of Mayors and Corporators in the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP).

He voiced concerns about the city's pressing civic issues such as traffic congestion and urban infrastructure challenges. 'For a long time, we have relied on temporary fixes for Bengaluru's problems instead of adopting a well-structured town planning approach,' Surya said.

The MP mentioned recurring problems like waterlogging and flooding after a few hours of rain, criticizing the city's lack of municipal leadership. He lamented that despite Bengaluru being known for its technological innovation and rich culture, it is increasingly marked by traffic woes, waterlogging, and poor garbage management.

Surya reiterated his call for a directly-elected mayor with a term of 3-5 years, similar to global cities like London, New York, and Paris. He noted that common citizens often find BBMP officials unapproachable, stressing the urgent need for accountable and accessible governance.

He also emphasized pedestrian-friendly urban spaces, governed traffic rules, and integration of metro, railway, and bus systems. Criticizing the state government, Surya said that initiatives like the Bengaluru Metropolitan Land Transport Authority (BMLTA) have stalled under the current administration.

Tejasvi Surya concluded by underscoring the importance of effective town planning, warning that without it, the dream of 'Brand Bengaluru' will remain unfulfilled. He firmly stated, 'Bengaluru deserves better.'
