Patna High Court and UNICEF Collaborate on Children's Disability Rights

The Patna High Court's Juvenile Justice Monitoring Committee, in collaboration with the Social Welfare Department of Bihar and UNICEF, hosted an annual consultation on Saturday to discuss the protection of children with disabilities.
Special guest Justice Pavan Kumar Bhimappa Bajanthri of the Patna High Court highlighted that children with disabilities require specialized care. He praised the Social Welfare Department’s efforts in this area. Supreme Court Justice Ahsanuddin Amanullah urged the government to proactively support these children and emphasized the role of society in aiding them, putting humanity above all.
Justice Abhay S. Oka of the Supreme Court underscored the need for better implementation of the Juvenile Justice Act and stressed raising awareness among stakeholders. Bihar Chief Secretary Brijesh Mehrotra reaffirmed the state's commitment to improving the lives of these children, announcing new initiatives such as the Directorate of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities and the appointment of Assistant Directors of Disability Empowerment in each district.
