On Thursday, August 8, 2024, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo inaugurated the dualization of the 22km Adentan to Dodowa road project, marking a significant milestone in Ghana’s road infrastructure transformation. The project, part of a broader strategy to enhance the country’s main trunk roads, aims to improve connectivity between the capital, Accra, and the Eastern and Volta regions.

Originally reconstructed in 1998, this key inter-regional road is crucial for facilitating smoother travel and supporting regional development. The dualization project, undertaken by Oswald Investments Limited—a prominent indigenous Ghanaian company—will be managed by the Ministry of Roads and Highways, with the Ghana Highway Authority overseeing engineering aspects. The project includes adding service lanes, drainage structures, walkways, and lay-bys where necessary.

At the sod-cutting ceremony, attended by local Chiefs and numerous community members, President Akufo-Addo highlighted the project's significance within the government's ongoing road infrastructure improvements. He noted that approximately 12,830 kilometers of road have been completed nationwide, including 2,055 kilometers of new roads and four interchanges in Greater Accra, as well as bridges in Tema and Taifa.

Significant completed projects include the iconic Pokuase Interchange, the first of its kind in Ghana and West Africa, the Tema Motorway Interchange Phase One, and the dualization of Aviation Road and other key routes. Ongoing major works in Greater Accra include the dualization of Achimota-Ofankor Road, expanding it to a 10-lane facility with four interchanges, which is currently 62% complete.

Additional ongoing projects include the Dome-Kitasi Road (26% complete), the Tema-Akosombo Road (10% complete), and the Obetsebi Lamptey Interchange Phase II (87% complete). The President also mentioned the resumption of the Tema-Aflao Road project and the dualization of the Coastal Road, addressing perennial flooding and enhancing connectivity.

President Akufo-Addo urged the contractor to implement effective traffic management measures to minimize disruptions for commuters during construction. This initiative underscores the government's commitment to improving Ghana's road infrastructure and enhancing regional connectivity.
