South Africa is nearing a milestone in ensuring a consistent electricity supply, thanks to the diligent execution of the Energy Action Plan (EAP). Minister in The Presidency, Khumbudzo Ntshavheni, made this announcement during a media briefing on the outcomes of the recent Cabinet meeting.

The country has not experienced load shedding for over 130 days, a significant achievement attributed to the EAP’s focus on planned maintenance and the introduction of new generation capacity. The EAP, announced by President Cyril Ramaphosa in July 2022, is making steady progress towards achieving energy security.

“This progress in maintaining a stable power supply is crucial for economic growth and improves the quality of life by allowing uninterrupted daily activities,” said Minister Ntshavheni.

As of the end of July, Eskom reported an unplanned capability loss factor (UCLF) of 8,321 MW, marking a historic improvement in the efficiency of electricity generation at its power stations. The Cabinet congratulated Eskom on this achievement and encouraged South Africans to continue practicing energy-saving measures.

Ntshavheni emphasized the importance of public cooperation in preserving the national grid. “By adopting an energy-saving lifestyle, every South African contributes to keeping the lights on, which is vital for businesses, industries, and the overall economy,” she concluded.
