During Pope Francis's weekly general audience at the Vatican on Wednesday, two women from an animal rights group interrupted the proceedings to protest against bullfighting.

The activists, identified as members of PETA, held signs in Spanish and English declaring, 'Bullfighting is a sin,' before being swiftly removed by security. The event was held in the Vatican's Paul VI hall due to summer heat.

This marks the second such protest at a papal event this year, with a similar incident occurring in January. The activists argue that some Catholic priests bless local bullfighters. While Pope Francis has not addressed the issue, his predecessor Pope Pius V denounced bullfighting in the 16th century.
