In a significant crackdown on drug peddlers, Kulgam Police on Tuesday seized properties worth crores at Nassu Badragund, Qazigund town in Jammu and Kashmir, stated an official release. The seized assets include a double-storied residential house spanning 1145 square feet.

The identified drug peddler is Ghulam Rasool Bhat, son of Ghulam Mohammad Bhat, a resident of Nassu Badragund, Qazigund town. Currently, Ghulam Rasool Bhat is held in Central Jail Kot Balwal, Jammu under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1988 (PIT NDPS Act).

According to the official release, the property was seized as part of ongoing efforts to eliminate the drug menace in society. An FIR has been filed, and an investigation is underway to ascertain the origins of the property, which preliminary findings suggest was obtained through illicit drug trafficking.

On August 1, in a related action against drug trafficking, Kupwara Police attached 16.5 marlas of land in the Khumriyal area of Kupwara district, also suspected to be acquired through illegal drug trade. The property belongs to Manzoor Ahmad Mir, who has been taken into preventive custody under the PIT NDPS Act.

Kupwara Police have called on residents to provide any information that might aid in the fight against drug peddling. Cooperation from locals is deemed vital to effectively combat this growing threat.

On the same day, Bijbehara Police Station attached a commercial complex valued at over Rs 2 crores in the fight against drug traffickers. The property, belonging to the late Abdul Rashid Dar of Tulkhan Bijbehara, was identified as an asset gained through the illicit trade of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances. (ANI)
