Manorama Khedkar, mother of former probationary IAS officer Puja Khedkar, was released from Yerawada Central Jail on Saturday after securing bail. The Pune Court granted her bail on August 2 in a criminal intimidation case related to a land dispute. Manorama was arrested by Pune rural police last month, following the filing of the case at Paud police station.
In a related development, the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) cancelled the provisional candidature of Puja Khedkar in July. Puja has been permanently debarred from all future UPSC exams and selections. On Thursday, the Delhi Court dismissed Puja's anticipatory bail plea, stating that the allegations against her are both grave and serious, necessitating a thorough investigation.
Additional Sessions Judge Devender Kumar Jangala noted that custodial interrogation is required to uncover the entire conspiracy and determine the involvement of other individuals. Given the current facts and circumstances, the judge concluded that this was not an appropriate case for granting anticipatory bail to the accused.
