Karnataka Government Halts Eviction Notices Over Waqf Land Dispute

The Karnataka government has declared its intent to take disciplinary action against officials who alter land mutation records and issue eviction notices to farmers under the Waqf Act. This announcement follows complaints from farmers whose land was recorded in favor of the Karnataka Board of Waqfs.
In a communication addressing all regional and deputy commissioners, the Revenue Department Principal Secretary, Rajender Kumar Kataria, emphasized the decision made during a recent meeting led by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. The meeting concluded with the withdrawal of all prior government directives concerning land mutation changes.
Additionally, the letter highlighted that all eviction notices previously served have been annulled, ensuring farmers continue cultivating their lands without fear of eviction. These changes occur as Karnataka awaits crucial bypolls, with complaints from affected districts like Vijayapura confirming the widespread confusion caused by earlier directives.
