Gujarat is experiencing a sunny transformation as its thriving rooftop solar scheme illuminates thousands of homes and businesses. The state's commitment to renewable energy is yielding substantial benefits for residents and entrepreneurs alike.
The surge in rooftop solar installations across Gujarat can be attributed to government policies introduced in 2019. The state's 'Surya Urja Rooftop Yojana-Gujarat' offered impressive subsidies, encouraging widespread adoption. Central government incentives have further reduced installation costs, allowing residents to save on electricity bills and profit from excess energy by selling it back to the grid.
Jai Prakash Shivahare, MD of Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited, stated, 'At current benchmark prices, a Rs 30,000 subsidy is given for a 1 kW system, Rs 60,000 for a 2 kW system, and Rs 78,000 for a 3 kW system or higher. It is a very attractive scheme.' The scheme has slashed electricity costs for many, enhancing financial savings and minimizing carbon footprints.
Ahmedabad resident Soumil Joshi commented, 'The biggest benefit is that my electricity bill has come down to zero. All the equipment in my home is solar-powered, including my EV car.' Another resident, Jwalin Desai, shared, 'Our electricity bill has dropped to zero, which allows us to save and splurge elsewhere. The solar panels have a lifespan of up to 25 years, providing long-term benefits.'
The Gujarat government has effectively streamlined the solar installation process, offering technical support and raising awareness. Private companies have also played a crucial role, providing competitive pricing and reliable services. Policies promoting 'Make in India' have led to the rise of local manufacturing units as well.
Nirav Patel, Partner at Techno Energy Solutions, noted, 'The government's promotional offers and subsidies have significantly raised awareness. Given Gujarat's trader culture, the long-term benefits of a solar system – with a quick payback period of around three years – have driven swift adoption.'
As Gujarat continues to push for renewable energy, the rooftop solar scheme is anticipated to be a cornerstone in the state's clean energy ambitions. With growing awareness and supportive policies, solar power is poised to shine even brighter in Gujarat's future. (ANI)
