The National Testing Agency (NTA) on Friday unveiled the revised NEET UG 2024 results, highlighting a dramatic decrease in perfect scores. Only 17 students attained a perfect score, compared to 67 in the earlier declared results, marking a 75% reduction in the number of toppers.

Initially, the June 4 results showed a historical 67 candidates achieving a perfect 720 marks. Among them, six students received additional marks due to time lost during the exam, caused by invigilator errors. Moreover, 44 students were awarded "grace marks" for mistakes in answering a fundamental physics question.

The Supreme Court later ruled that only one correct answer would be acceptable for the disputed question, and any other response would not earn marks. Consequently, a retest was conducted for those students who lost time in the initial exam.

Following these revisions, the number of qualified candidates dwindled from 1,316,268 to 1,315,853, a reduction of 415 candidates. The NTA held a retest for 1,563 candidates affected by the time loss.

This year's NEET UG exam, held on May 5, faced allegations of paper leaks, irregularities, and timing issues. Over 24 lakh candidates, including 13,31,321 females, 9,96,393 males, and 17 transgender individuals, participated across 4,750 centres in 571 cities, with 14 cities outside India. The re-examination on June 23 catered to the 1,563 students who experienced time losses during the initial test.
